  • Chuckles

Simple things that have made me laugh out loud today:

    1. I was thinking about buying a Sona snore pillow at Brookstones for my dad which is a hefty investment at $129. Phil told me to look up some reviews first and this one made me laugh for a good two minutes...

"This pillow is so uncomfortable I cannot bear a whole night with it without getting my neck hurting. I would say it stops me from snoring because it stops me from sleeping too!"

    - Brookstone Buyer, NY, NY

    2. I saw the episode of Scrubs where Turk finds out that he and Carla are pregnant before Carla and decides to tell her by throwing her a big party. On their way to the surprise, Carla tells Turk she can't wait for the moment when they're finally pregnant and she can go around and tell all her friends one by one the good news. Turk immediately uses his walkie talkie watch to tell JD to abort the plans, so JD yells out to the crowd that is holding a bunch of baby ballooons "ABORT! ABORT! ABORT THE BABIES!" Then he realizes he's yelling in a priest's face...

    3. I went running this morning (a very rare occurance) and when I was walking back home I noticed a car slow down behind me and inch forward slowly in a familiar yet creepy way. Turns out it was my mom coming back from her morning classes, so I got very excited and tried to jump in, but she sped up everytime I got close...did this all the way down the street. It is hard to be out of breath+angry+laugh at the same time.

    4. the word chuckles made me chuckle

    Good Music

This song came on pandora today...

By the way, if you haven't used pandora.com, you are missing out! It's a free way to listen to music and 'find' new kinds of songs. All you do is go to the site, type in the name of artists you like, and a free radio station is created for you...they'll play songs by the artists you put in + others that are similar. The only down side is you can't put songs on repeat or pick what comes next. Overall, though, it does a pretty good job of figuring out the styles I like...

Anyway...this song came on and I don't know what it means really, but it makes me very happy and calm...kind of love sick too  you can hear it here--> myspace.com/greglaswell

    "Embrace Me" - Greg Laswell
O wind, won't you sweep me up into the sky
So I can get a better look
    At this life of mine
And pick me up and twist me
    Around so I can see
    Everything around me now

    O won't you embrace me( x 4)

    O river won't take me
    Out into the sea
So I can get a good look back
At the land that grounds me
and then a little further out
    So I can feel alone
Much more than I have these days

O then won't you embrace me
    O won't you embrace me (x3)

    I figure there is time
    Later on to move along
    From this there is time
Enough of it for right or wrong
    I figure there is time
    So go easy on me
And let me stay here a while
    Stay here awhile

O wind won't you take me up to the sky
I can get a good look down at this life of mine
River won't you take me out and to the sea
I can get a good look back at the land that grounds me

    Land that grounds me (x3)

can't figure out if it's a love song or not...Is all the nature stuff kind of a personification of God maybe? Any interpretations?

  • Four Years w/ Johanna Yu

I am soon approaching the four year mark of living with Johanna. Yesterday, I was able to go with her to her work fundraiser as her +1, where we met very interesting people. The most 'exciting' part was when this guy approached us and asked if he could take our picture for his column. Apparently, he writes a column called "Out and About" for the Statesmen and it's mostly about social events around the city. Apparently it started as a column about events in the gay community, but since then has expanded to all kinds of news. (Out and about...get it?!) Anyway, at first I couldn't figure out why he would approach us to talk, but then I started thinking, "Did he approach us cause he thought we were gay?" I also became self conscious of wearing dress pants instead of a skirt or a dress like Johanna because that would make me the 'man' in the relationship. After all this, Johanna became more conscious of how to introduce me. Appartently, 'roommate' can sometimes be a code word for 'life partner.'

    <5 mins ago>
    Johanna: Lina!
    me: Yeah?
J: I'm going to go take a shower
    me:...ok
J: are you going to miss me?

this is what made me think of what happened yesterday

  • Interference

Man, everytime I come back xanga has changed the interface and it takes me awhile to figure out how to post something. But...okie dokie, that aside...

    hunters

New desktop picture...I think it is really funny and ironic, kind of sad, but a picture of certain feelings these days. I am graduating in May, and like many people, I've been trying to figure out THE FUTURE and what I should be pursuing and what exactly I need to be doing with my time. I feel like the native people cautiously approaching this foreign object in the distance. Naturally, I am fearful and defensive...and according to this picture, I SHOULD be!

p.s. wooo trying to keep up with the times...going for a swankier look! colors are kind of dark but ill figure out how to brighten it up some other time.

  • SNOW

Today I woke up in my toasty little closet room and noticed that outside my window looked awfully WHITE. I ran out do look onto the street and sure enough, New York City was covered with snowwww! This is the second time in my life that I have ever seen real snow (real being that it covers the ground and is falling in front of my face) and I couldn't help smiling and letting the toothpaste drool out of my mouth when I was brushing my teeth as I saw actual snowFLAKES falling outside my window. I'm really happy I got to experience it before I left, and to make the most of it, I walked everywhere today- to church and then around town to run errands, probably a total of 50 or so blocks. It was beautiful!!!!... but very cold.
